I am Barbara Shinkle and excited to join the St. Jerome community as the librarian for our school. I have a bachelor's degree in Communications from Temple University. I have worked as a reporter for the Associated Press at the Statehouse in Trenton, NJ and have worked in journalism for many years. I look forward to teaching study skills, research basics and test prep techniques as well as expanding our students' desire to read and comprehend all kinds of books! I love drama and theatre and look forward to infusing all our learning with an ardent love of God and the Catholic faith.
Many adventures in reading await the students of St.Jerome School this year! Children in Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 enjoy story time and a literature-based activity each week. Children in Kindergarten to Grade 5 also have a read aloud and a corresponding activity. Our lessons include author studies, exposure to various literary genres, and literature appreciation. All students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 have the opportunity to check a library book out every week. The Fuller Library includes more than 10,000 titles, including non-fiction, reference, and award-winning fiction. We celebrate our appreciation and love for reading during Read Across America Week in March every year. This celebration includes guest readers and special activities. The Scholastic Book Fair is held every January to coincide with Catholic Schools Week. Students and families have the opportunity to purchase top-quality books while supporting the library's fundraising efforts.
