I graduated from Gwynedd Mercy College with a B.S. in Education. I have taught at Ressurection of Our Lord, St Malachy, and Smedly Elemantary School. This will be my 5th year teaching first grade at St.Jeromes. Having taught in a public school I can honestly say I would rather teach in a Catholic School. I really enjoy teaching the student's about God's teachings and getting the students excited to be kind and loving like Jesus. My children attended St. Jerome and I am a parishionner, teaching here with this great faculty makes me proud of my parish.
First Grade is a transitional year for the students. It is the first year they are required to wear the school uniform, sit in a desk all day, and have regular tests on work learned in the classroom. During a "normal" year first grade incorporates guided reading and math groups. The students will work in small groups doing various reading/math centers around the room while I work with a small group providing semi individualized instruction. The small groups allow me to evaluate a student's progress and if they need to come back to the table for small group intruction again this is possible. Some of the students favorite things about first grade are our visits to the STEM lab which we will be doing in the classroom this year, the Halloween Saints parade, Grinchmas, The Great American Wax Museum, setting our Leprechaun traps and of course listening to the antics of Junie B. Jones.
